9 People Shot Saturday At Columbia, South Carolina Mall

Police in Columbia, South Carolina are investigating a mass shooting incident with 9 people shot at the Columbiana Centre.

Around 2PM Saturday Columbia Police received a 9-1-1 call that shots had been fired at Columbiana Centre. Law enforcement responded and upon arrival advised mall businesses to shelter-in-place, worked with mall staff to evacuate patrons and accounted for injured.

There are 14 total victims. Nine of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, five of the victims suffered other injuries including broken bones, lacerations and a head injury while attempting to leave the mall for safety.

Columbia Police called the shooting incident an “Isolated, senseless act of violence” and confirmed Jewayne M. Price, who was initially detained by law enforcement as a person of interest remains in police custody. Columbia Police said in a statement that “Price will be charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol. CPD is in consultation with the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office; additional charges may be forthcoming.” 

Two additional males who were also detained for questioning, Columbia Police says have been released from police custody after it was determined that they were not involved in the shooting.

The Columbia Police are asking for the public’s help saying “Any witness or person who captured the incident on video should notify CPD immediately. A dedicated hotline has been established to receive information: Citizens are encouraged to call CPD’s Criminal Investigations Bureau at 803-545-3525.”
